Hetian jade, one of China's "Four Famous Jades," is named after the Hetian region of Xinjiang, but it is not a regional concept. It refers to a type of jade, not limited to being produced in the Hetian area. In China, any fine-grained jade with over 98% tremolite content is called Hetian jade. The ancient Chinese placed great importance on the color of Hetian jade, as it was not only a quality marker but also held symbolic significance. Influenced by the Five Elements theory, the ancient people assigned colors to different directions: green for the East, red for the South, white for the West, black for the North, and yellow for the center. In the traditional classification, jade was divided into five colors: green, red, yellow, white, and black. However, Hetian jade primarily comes in four main colors: white, green, black, and yellow.
