Founder's Story

Born and raised in China, Emma has always been extremely passionate about traditional Chinese fashion, art and giving back to her community. When she studied in Columbia, she always loved dressing herself in a traditional colorful Chinese blouse made of Song JIN （silk with colorful floral pattern) with a pair of blue jeans and modern black boots, and went out with friends to take long walks on the busiest streets of Manhattan on Friday night. 

Interestingly, she always got curious glimpse and friendly inquiry of where she bought her clothes from the New York fashion lovers on the streets. This experience led her to realize there was strong demand for a kind of fashion style that allows the east to meet the west in New York City, and even around the globe.

After graduating from Columbia University and working in China, Emma’s interest in chinoiserie apparel style grew stronger after she visited the old craftsmanship of silk and Song Jin in Suzhou, China. She was amazed to see how the oldest weaving technique of Jin created the beautiful pieces of clothes and handbags. Therefore, she decided to venture out into the fashion world to pursue her design ideas back to her college years. Atelier JIN began soon after.

Atelier JIN launched online in December 2024, with the signature Song Jin apparel and handbag collection. Atelier JIN is dedicated to perfectly blend traditional Chinese crafts with modern design, creating fashion and lifestyle products with French-Chinoiserie aesthetic for every occassion at an affordable price. Each product is made from the finest fabrics, including SongJin, mulberry silk, and velvet, adorned with unique colorful patterns inspired by Chinese culture, such as flowers, birds, and bamboo. The integration of natural harmony and traditional Chinoiserie elements allows fashion lovers to experience the profound depth of history and the continuity of culture.
