In ancient India, ancient Persia, and other countries, lapis lazuli, along with turquoise and coral, were beloved gemstones. During the Song Dynasty, officials were particularly obsessed with lapis lazuli, and this admiration continued into the Southern Song period. These officials were known as "lapis lazuli enthusiasts." The color of lapis lazuli ranges from a deep blue to azure, resembling the color of the summer sky. Throughout history, whether among Middle Eastern royalty or Chinese officials, lapis lazuli was used as a gift, symbolizing the "path to ascending to the heavens" due to its vibrant blue color. Nowadays, most lapis lazuli used in China's jewelry industry comes from Afghanistan, imported through Hong Kong, with major ports in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Shantou, with a small amount coming from Chile.
