Tourmaline, known as "electric stone" in mineralogy, derives its English name from the ancient Sinhalese word Turmali, meaning "mixed-color gemstone" due to its wide range of colors. In China, the term "碧玺" (Tourmaline) first appeared in the Qing Dynasty text Shiya. Empress Dowager Cixi’s deep admiration for tourmaline elevated its status, making it a coveted treasure among officials, many of whom wore tourmaline prayer beads. As the birthstone for October, tourmaline’s diverse colors each carry unique symbolic meanings, earning it the title of the "gemstone of a thousand charms."
